Route n° 5-1
Our excursion starts on path n° 5 at the edge of the residential area of Gais, right behind the Sonne Guesthous on the road to Valle Aurina - here there are parking spaces. Initially the path goes slightly uphill and then crosses partially steep hills with trees and finally brings you directly to Castel Neuhaus. Upon reaching the Castle, we leave a relatively short and very beautiful path. It is not ruins that await us at the castle, rather a courtyard with a beautiful chapel and a well kept castle, which is still occupied. Unfortunately the inside of the castle cannot be visited, but you can have a drink at the Castle Bar. Continue your walk downhill in A northerly direction initially on the asphalt road and then turn to the left on path n° 5 to the Baustadt farm. Follow this up- and downhill path, and cross the wooden bridge - this will then bring you to Villa Ottone, approx. 1 hour from the Castle. After crossing the road and the Aurino river turn right and walk initially on the asphalt road and later on, along the road to Aurino; through fields to the South and finally return to the point of departure by crossing the Aurino river again at the border of Gais village.
Gais - old road to S. Giorgio - Villa S. Caterina - Bärental - Gais

Leave the old centre of the village and walk along the asphalted manor path through fields in In a southerly direction towards Brunico. At "Croce Alta" a non asphalted road leads to Villa S. Caterina Village. From here follow the signs for Castello di Chela/Montassilone and you will thereby get to Bärental. Once on the gravel road, you will reach the point of departure after approx. 20 minutes.
Embankment path in Gais
It is believed that in 1580 the farmers from Gais and from Villa S. Caterina together created an irrigation channel for their fields. This channel has been abandoned for a long time now, but the Tourist Association restored the path along the dam in 1987. When walking along the Via Talfrieden road that starts after the bridge and goes towards the North, a sign will show you the way to the path along the dam. At the beginning, follow the road in a north-westerly direction through the houses and then uphill to the forest and then follow the path along the dam - from the bridge in Gais about 20 minutes. Continue your walk along the dam. This path is almost always level and it can´t be missed because of the steep hills surrounding it that are covered with trees. It is a beautiful excursion going towards the South, where at the end, the path leads onto a wide manor road just above the Bärental farm. From there take the downhill path to the right - an easy downhill walk through fields and pastures to the North of the moraine cone in Gais, which brings you back to the village.
Gais - Castello di Chela Castle -Ameto - Gais

Above Brunico, above the entrance of the Valle di Tures Valley towers Castello di Chela Castle at 1,187 m on a clearing surrounded by forests. Seen from the valley, the castle seems to be well preserved, but the reality is that since the fire in 1944 the building is in a bad state. You will reach the castle (1,187 m ) within approx. 1 hour by leaving Gais on route n° 2 in Northerly direction. Walk past the houses up to the forest, then cross the forest and the fields with some farms and finally cross the hills in a Southerly direction. From the Castello di Chela Castle follow route K, which is a beautiful path through the forest, and you will reach the Ameto farms (rest opportunity, 1,260 m). Then take the downhill path n° 5 and walk steeply downhill to the Bärental farm and finally return to Gais through the fields of the wide moraine cone (1.5 hours from the Castello di Chela Castle).
Start your excursion at the bridge in Villa Ottone and follow the sign for Campo Tures. Walk along the banks of the Aurino river on the manor road and on the cycle-path through fields. This will bring you to the little village Caminata and finally to the main village of the Tures and Aurina Valleys - Campo Tures (approx. 9 km).
It is also possible to take the bus back to the point of departure in Villa Ottone which leave every half hour.
