Gais - Villa Ottone

Gais and Villa Ottone are both located on the banks of the Aurino River (Ahrnbach), surrounded by unspoilt forests in one of the most lateral valleys in South Tyrol.

Gais and Villa Ottone toghether with their mountain areas Riomolino and Montassilone at the exit of the Tures Valley towards Brunico keep the balance between old traditions and modern times.

All the expectations of those who are looking for relaxation,  for sports and excursion opportunities and of course, of those nature lovers will be completely satisfied. The friendliness and hospitality of the people will certainly prove to be enough to convince anyone that spending their holidays in Gais was definitely the right choice to have made.

Gais- Uttenheim (Villa Ottone) - History
The parish church San Giovanni in Gais is one of the most beautiful expressions of roman art in Puster Valley.

In 1425 a special trustee used to live in the “Pflegerhaus” (House of the Trustee): Oswald von Wolkenstein and later on, during Second World War, another poet found refuge here – Ezra Pound.
The Kings of Saxony passed through here, Napoleon spent his holidays at the house and Hermann von Gilm composed his verses in this building.

In this area traditions and religion are closely interlinked with each oter and the peoples patriotism is still expressed today.

At the feast of All Saints the “Pitschelesingers” wander around the village and the usual Sunday processions take place, and when the “Kirchtagsmichl” (Bank holiday Michel) hangs high upon a tree-trunk in Mulini village, then anything is possible! The whole village celebrates for three days and enjoys the music of various orchestras.
